The achievements and successes of Azerbaijan in the field of culture and art over the past two decades are inextricably linked with the serious attention that our state pays to culture, education, national heritage, traditions and history.

As Day.Az reports, the famous tar performer, holder of the state orders “Shohrat” and “Sharaf”, laureate of the State Prize, professor, People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Ramiz Guliyev told Trend Life.

Reforms and transformations in the cultural sphere over the past 20 years – the period of the country’s leadership by President Ilham Aliyev – have shown that this sphere occupies one of the leading positions in the state policy of our country.

“Over the past 20 years, significant successes have been achieved in preserving, promoting and transferring our national cultural and spiritual wealth and heritage to future generations. A huge amount of work has been done to familiarize the whole world with Azerbaijani culture and art. Over the years, the state has held numerous events in various countries world, where our musical culture, theatrical and film art, the creativity of masters of the brush and sculptors were presented. The UNESCO World Heritage List and the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage are constantly replenished with objects and masterpieces of the oral and intangible cultural heritage of Azerbaijan. And we all know that this is preceded by a huge and labor-intensive work,” noted the People’s Artist of Azerbaijan.

The renowned tar performer emphasized that over the past two decades, centers of culture and creative development have been built in Azerbaijan, new museums, libraries, galleries, etc. have been created. Monuments to outstanding personalities in the field of art were erected, many theaters, concert halls, and music schools were put into operation after major repairs and reconstruction.

“Cultural life is developing not only in the capital, but also in the regions of the country. Look how many wonderful institutions function for the benefit of our culture in the regions. The calling card of our ancient and rich culture is mugham. And one of the pearls among the centers of culture and art is the International Center mugham in Baku, which opened in December 2008 with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. The beautiful complex once again demonstrates that the Azerbaijani state treats mugham with great love and care. The International Mugham Center is one of the main venues for cultural and educational activities, holding concerts, festivals, competitions, evenings and lectures dedicated to the luminaries of mugham art. At the same time, mugham centers created in recent years in the regions are also of exceptional importance from the point of view of preserving and promoting our ancient art. in the regions have made, are making and will make an important contribution to the development of mugham in our country,” he said.

Speaking about the development and prosperity of Azerbaijani culture over the past 20 years, Ramiz Guliyev especially emphasized the last three years.

“Today, President Ilham Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people are writing a new glorious history of our country. Under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the Azerbaijani army liberated the ancestral lands of the country from almost 30 years of Armenian occupation. It was joy, happiness that is difficult to describe in words. At the same time, we became witnesses of terrible destruction, the barbaric attitude of the invaders towards our historical, cultural, spiritual monuments. Today we see the rapid, large-scale restoration of Karabakh, modern infrastructure is being created in the cities of Shusha, Agdam, Fizuli and others. Culture is returning to the liberated lands, in the city of Shusha – cradle of national culture, many years later the festival “Khari Bulbul” and Vagif Poetry Days began to be held again. In the city of Shusha, the Mausoleum of Molla Panah Vagif was restored, and busts of our brilliant personalities, Natavan, Uzeyir Hajibeyli, Bulbul, shot by the Armenians during the occupation, were installed in the central square, The Bulbul House-Museum was opened after restoration, etc. The city of Shusha was declared the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2023, the cultural capital of the Islamic world in 2024,” the People’s Artist emphasized.

Ramiz Guliyev noted that there is a very active cultural life in the country. “Our young generation is being brought up in the spirit of patriotism, in the spirit of boundless respect for history, culture, and national heritage. Works created by composers, writers, artists, theater workers and filmmakers annually replenish and enrich the treasury of our cultural heritage. Cultural events, published books, educational projects help to learn more about national culture and art. I am proud and happy that every day I see successes and achievements in the field of our culture, I see how state support has a fruitful effect on the creativity of our artists, how important reforms are being carried out,” added the people’s artist.
