A new strategic alliance aims to provide up to 1 gigawatt of natural gas to support the burgeoning demand for energy-resilient AI data centers across ten U.S.states.
HOUSTON – Overwatch Capital and Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. today announced a landmark partnership designed to bolster the advancement of next-generation, energy-resilient AI data centers. The collaboration includes a significant investment by Idemitsu into Overwatch Capital and the launch of Idemitsu’s nationwide natural gas supply operations within the United States. Through this venture, Idemitsu will provide natural gas to on-site power generation systems, capable of delivering up to 1 gigawatt (GW) to fuel the rapidly expanding landscape of AI-driven data centers.
The partnership will guarantee a firm, long-term natural gas supply for data center tenants located in Ohio, Texas, Illinois, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, South Carolina, and Pennsylvania. This will power high-density AI computing through a combination of grid-connected and private-grid models, addressing a critical need for reliable energy infrastructure.
At the heart of this collaboration lies the integration of Overwatch’s innovative SIDE Platform with Idemitsu’s strategic entry into the U.S.natural gas market and its extensive expertise in global energy solutions. Together, the companies intend to accelerate the deployment of parallel data center builds, responding to unprecedented demand from hyperscalers, GPU-cloud providers, and institutional investors seeking purpose-built, energy-resilient platforms for AI compute at scale.
