Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has advised BNP to get an idea about the reality of the country in the comments made by Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif after seeing the unprecedented development cycle of Bangladesh. He also felt that the party should learn from the speech made by the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
He made this comment at a press conference at the Awami League president’s political office in Dhanmondi, capital, on Friday (April 26).
Obaidul Quader said, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif should be ashamed to see the progress and the height of Bangladesh today. He said that the part of Pakistan which was considered a burden by the leaders of the country at that time has progressed a lot in development. And we are ashamed to see this progress of Bangladesh.
Awami League General Secretary commented that Pakistan today praised the development of Bangladesh and BNP does not see the development of the country. They have a lot to learn and understand the real truth from this statement of Shahbaz Sharif.
‘They see the darkness of the night in the light of day. When it is bright, they see the darkness of amblyopia. They are showing such low mentality about the development of the country. They should understand the reality from the statement of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Awami League general secretary said, today they talk about dummy elections. But BNP has become ineffective in democracy and elections and has itself become a dummy political party. They thought that if BNP does not participate in the elections, the government will not get legitimacy. But the opposite happened. After the national elections, 231 elections were held at various levels of local government. Where 60 percent of votes have been cast.
Obaidul Quader said in response to a question that many members of the party are taking part in the elections by disobeying the BNP’s instructions. When asked how the Awami League views the matter, Obaidul Quader further said that the country’s democracy and elections are progressing well without the BNP. Upazila elections will also be fair. Awami League will not support or oppose anyone from BNP in this election. BNPE will take care of BNP’s affairs.
Awami League general secretary said that there is still time to withdraw the candidacy regarding the disobedience of the party order to withdraw from the election of the close relatives of the ministers-MPs in the upazila elections. Must watch till the last day. Organizational measures will be taken in time for disobeying party instructions.
The Election Commission is afraid of interference and violence by MPs in the upazila elections – the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges said that there can be fear of conflict when asked by journalists. However, our efforts to avoid conflict continue.
When asked about the party’s statement regarding the recent report of the United States on the human rights of Bangladesh, Obaidul Quader said, what level of human rights has reached the level of genocide that Israel is conducting in Gaza? 14,000 children, 35,000 people and killings are happening every day. People are killed there every day. No one cares. The United States did not agree to the cease-fire proposal. That US Congress has already authorized Israel’s share of the funds. That means aiding and abetting war.
“First, let them clarify their position regarding the genocide of Israel, which is the worst example of human rights violations in this genocide. Then he should guide others’, he said.
In response to a question regarding the arrest of BNP leaders, he said that there are no cases of BNP leaders and workers due to political reasons. There are no party leaders in jail for political reasons. Those who have cases against them, are in jail, have specific misdemeanor cases against them. That is why they are going to jail. There is also a case against them.
“I want to tell BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam that the fake account you are raising in front of the nation is diminishing your transparency as a party to the people. Because there are many prisons in Bangladesh, what is the capacity of this prison? And we don’t understand how BNP will have so many people beyond the capacity of the prisons by combining these two numbers that BNP talks about.’
Central Awami League leaders including Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nashim, Organizing Secretary BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam, Afzal Hossain, Sujit Roy Nandi, Deputy Secretary Sayem Khan were present at the press conference.
