President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is scheduled to meet with Singaporean Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong during a working visit that runs from October 7 to 11, 2026, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). Assistant Secretary Analyn Ratonel framed the trip as an initiative of the [Philippines] to deepen ties with Singapore, expand economic engagement, and promote cooperation in sectors that would benefit the country

The working visit marks the fifth time Marcos has traveled to the neighboring city-state and constitutes his 47th international trip. The President is accompanied by Finance Secretary Frederick Go, Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Aldeguer-Roque, and Presidential Communications Office Secretary Dave Gomez.
Palace officials defended the journey against public scrutiny regarding the frequency of foreign travels. Ratonel stated that official foreign trips should be evaluated based on their overall utility rather than solely on their financial cost, describing them as investments that attract trade, generate jobs, reinforce diplomatic security, and champion national interests abroad.
Marcos Leads Final ASEAN Summit Before Singapore Takes Leadership
Economic ties between the two nations remain strong.
In addition to trade, the visit coincides with the final stretch of the Philippines holding the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations before Singapore assumes the rotating regional leadership in 2027. Marcos is scheduled to lead the 49th ASEAN Summit in Manila from November 15 to 17, marking the final leaders’ summit under the current Philippine chairmanship. Ratonel noted that the timing provides an opportunity to further deepen coordination with Singapore and align priorities as the country prepares to assume the ASEAN chairmanship

Ratonel stated that Nuclear energy may be a key topic, given the Philippines’ growing power needs and the expansion of energy-intensive industries such as artificial intelligence and data centres.
She added that Manila seeks to learn from Singapore’s experience in capability-building and regulation as the administration evaluates its long-term energy matrix.
Formula 1 Grand Prix Attendance and Official Expenses
The President’s trip overlaps with the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix running from October 9 to 11 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit as noted by The Global Filipino Magazine.
