A 14-year-old Palestinian boy was killed this Friday by shots fired by the Israeli Army south of the city of Bethlehem.

The boy has been identified as Ziad Mohamed Ghuneim and his death took place in the village of Al Khader. The official Palestinian news agency, WAFA, has detailed in a press release that Ghuneim was injured by shots in the back and neck during clashes with security forces and that he was transferred in critical condition to a nearby hospital, where he was ordered his death. The Israeli Army, for its part, has said that its troops responded to the throwing of “rocks and Molotov cocktails” while carrying out “routine security activities” in the area. “The soldiers began to chase the suspects, who continued to throw stones and Molotov cocktails at them, endangering their lives, to which they responded with gunfire,” said a military spokesman. This incident occurred within the framework of a day of tension in the West Bank, where dozens of Palestinians were injured in clashes with Israeli troops. especially around the city of Nablus.

Ghuneim’s death is the third of a Palestinian minor in a week, following the death on Wednesday of a 16-year-old boy and Nablus and one of 17 last Saturday. The minor killed on Wednesday, identified as Ghaith Rafiq Yamin, was shot in the head during clashes with Israeli troops in Nablus. Days before, on Saturday, Amjad al Afayed was hit by Israeli gunfire during an Army raid in the Jenin area, the main focus of violence in the region in recent weeks. Since the beginning of the current wave of violence in the area at the end of March, more than 40 Palestinians and 16 Israelis have died. Besides, More than 400 Palestinians have been detained in the framework of the Israeli military operation “Break the Wave”in reaction to a series of attacks by Palestinians and Arab-Israelis that began the current spike in tension.
