Pandemic, our life in the new normal

by time news

Will the Coronavirus stay with us for a long time or will we forget it?

A couple of questions that many are asking between third dose, green pass and tampons. Unfortunately these questions will remain unanswered for a long time because the evolution of the pandemic is still unknown.

In fact, there are many variables that can leave the door open to the virus or its mutations or close it almost forever.

But the next few months could give us new indications.

Will the Coronavirus Pandemic Ever End?

We are in a different phase of the pandemic, a phase in which, especially in industrialized countries, large-scale vaccination has not yet achieved herd immunity but has drastically reduced infections and deaths.

Due to the selfishness of many Big Pharmas, which have not granted temporary licenses to poor countries, and due to the idiocy of all the no vaxes, we cannot yet let our guard down and we must continue with the preventive measures.

Two of the main reasons for risk are the spread of the Delta variant, which is very contagious, and the limitation of vaccines that do not prevent the vaccinated from contracting the infection and infecting others.

In recent months, industrialized countries have reached 80/85% of vaccinated while in Africa, for example, not even 5% has been reached. All this imbalance could leave the door open for the arrival of new variants, more or less dangerous.

Will the Coronavirus Pandemic End?

Another problem that will soon emerge is the surplus of vaccines, which expire at six months, in rich countries (in the UK there are 7 doses for each person).

For this reason, the WHO is trying to change the expiration date to avoid unnecessary waste.

The International Working Group consisting of the IMF, the World Bank Group, the WHO and the World Trade Organization intends to have at least 40% of people in all countries vaccinated by the end of 2021 and at least 60% by the middle of 2022.

Over 3 billion doses are needed to achieve this goal.

The pandemic, it is known, has affected not only the health of people with over 5 million deaths but also society as a whole, from the economy, to work, to society. But practically now the world has changed.

What will the new normal look like?

First of all, masks and disinfectants will continue to be present in everyday life. Even where it is allowed many people still do not trust and move with caution and especially wearing protection. Then you will have, in addition to the traditional passport, a health passport that will certainly be required at every border. And also from the health point of view we will be monitored in every part of the world. The home office, the new way of working from home, has received the green light from the virus. Companies have realized that it is possible to be productive without going to the office.

Technology has become the real protagonist in the lives of all of us, at school, in the company, in lockdowns and in the hospital we have all become more familiar with the use of information technology and computers.

As a consequence, online purchases were the “drivers” in commerce. Amazon’s boom-driven ecommerce has become an integral part of our lives and our new normal.

A new normal which, however, has cost suffering and over 5 million deaths.
