For the first time in Milan, the OTHER SIZE GALLERY, the space dedicated to art and culture expressed in its different languages within the WORKNESS CLUB, on the occasion of the release of the film Parthenope in cinemas, presents starting from 16 October , the exhibition “The cinema of Paolo Sorrentino. Photographs by Gianni Fiorito” edited by Maria Savarese.Sixteen photographs, set up in the prestigious space of Via Maffei, expertly chosen to tell the scenes and backstage of some films by the Oscar-winning Neapolitan filmmaker: Il Divo (2007), This must be the place (2010), The Great Beauty (2012), The Young Pope (2018), Them (2018), It Was the Hand of God (2021), up to the latest, soon to be released in cinemas, Parthenope (2024). The works highlight all the ability and talent of Gianni Fiorito in synthesizing a story in a single photographic shot, giving life to real “chronicles from the set”, traversed by a double dimension, the narrative one, staged by the director, and that of the human beings involved in the frenetic comings and goings of filming, and in particular, Sorrentino’s way of working on the set. “The role of the still photographer, for Fiorito, – says the curator Maria Savarese – is to capture a precise moment, being concentrated, “staying on track”, to translate a moment, be it real or scenic, into narrative fiction. And this is why in his work it is easy to understand how cinema and photography meet in a precise point, in an exact heart that beats punctually in the same area of interest, penetrating the hidden details and bringing them back to attention, managing to block the the moment, contemplating it, reconstructing it and offering the spectator a slower and more careful possibility of observation. “Teacher of Entertainment Photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, Gianni Fiorito has worked as a photojournalist for decades with particular attention to the complex reality of Neapolitan and southern Italy, documenting, among other things, for the major national and international newspapers international events, the Camorra phenomenon and widespread illegality, the social and urban reality of the suburbs, the decommissioning of the modern city and the transformation of the urban landscape. Since 2000 he has dedicated himself exclusively to stage photography, collaborating with the main Italian directors, including, in addition to Sorrentino, Leonardo di Costanzo, Francesca Comencini, Ferzan Ozpeteck, John Turturro, Pappi Corsicato, Ivan Cotroneo, Antonio Capuano, Daniele Lucchetti, solo to name a few. A collateral event of the exhibition will be the meeting with the actor Peppe Lanzetta, one of the protagonists of the film Parthenope, in conversation with the film critic Francesco Della Calce which will be held in the gallery on Friday 29 November. WORKNESS CLUB is a place of work, culture, art, but also fitness, catering and relaxation. A complete environment, to cultivate success, well-being and establish new valuable relationships. The beauty of art, in all its forms, finds its natural place in OTHER SIZE GALLERY, a place of culture, pleasure and emotions which further confirms its function with the exhibition “Paolo Sorrentino’s cinema. Photographs by Gianni Fiorito”.
