Wrestling Action Kicks Off at Paris 2024

The wrestling competitions are underway at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. Idman.biz reports that freestyle wrestling matches kicked off today.
The first day of competition saw action in two weight categories. The Azerbaijani team is represented in both. The wrestling action began at 13:30 Baku time.
Freestyle Wrestling – 57 kg - 1/8 Finals
Aliabbas Rzazade entered the competition in the 1/8 finals. The European Championship gold and silver medalist faced Uzbekistan’s Gulomjon Abdullaev. Despite a valiant effort, Rzazade fell to a 11:4 defeat, ending his Olympic journey.
Freestyle Wrestling – 86 kg
Osman Nurmagomedov secured his first victory in the 1/8 finals, overcoming Mongolia’s Baasanyargal Byambasuren with a score of 11:2. He progressed to the quarterfinals but suffered a loss to Miles Amin (San Marino) with a score of 14:16. Since Amin later lost his next fight, Nurmagomedov’s Olympic journey also ended.
It’s worth noting that consolation and medal fights in these two weight classes will take place tomorrow.
