New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated javelin throw star Neeraj Chopra, who won the silver medal in the Paris Olympics, saying that he is the embodiment of excellence. Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj won the silver medal in Paris by throwing a throw of 89.45 meters. President Draupadi Murmu also extended her congratulations, writing, ‘Hearty congratulations to Neeraj Chopra on winning the silver medal in the Paris Olympics and creating history. He is the first Indian athlete to win gold and silver medals in two consecutive Olympic Games. India is proud of him. His achievement will inspire generations to come.’

Anderson Peters of Grenada finished third with a throw of 88.54m. Neeraj Chopra threw 89.34m in the men’s javelin throw qualification round to book his place in the final. The throw recorded his second-best performance in the event, falling slightly short of his personal best of 89.94m achieved at the Stockholm Diamond League in 2022.
