“Labourious”. This is the term that comes up among several sources present Wednesday evening to describe the reconstruction of the murder of the former Argentine rugby player Federico Martin Aramburu which was held on Boulevard Saint-Germain (6th arrondissement of Paris) until 4:30 a.m. next morning. That is 8:30 a.m. in the rain, the wind, the cold and with traffic maintained on this busy Parisian axis. The police services had only condemned one lane of traffic, the one close to the sidewalk on which the events took place on March 19, 2022 in the early morning.

A reconstruction which complements the video surveillance images which captured most of the drama that day and which had made it possible, in particular, to quickly identify Loïk Le Priol, 28 years old, a figure of the ultra-right. For this reconstruction, assisted by his lawyer Mr. Xavier Nogueras, he is the only one to have agreed to participate. The other indicted for murder, Romain Bouvier, 32, refused to get out of the van which had taken him to Boulevard Saint-Germain.

“In agreement with me, Romain Bouvier did not want to get out of the truck,” relates Me Sophie Rey-Gascon, one of his two lawyers. In fact, the conditions did not respect the secrecy of the instruction, nor the security, nor the dignity of a detainee.” In particular, the presence of onlookers and journalists who filmed the evolution of lawyers, magistrates and experts. Me Rey-Gascon adds: “Knowing that the scenes are all filmed, this reconstruction was of less use than in other cases. »

A few tarpaulins and fences had been erected to hide the reconstruction process. According to our information, the investigating judge made arbitrations and asked Loïk Le Priol to only redo certain scenes with breastplates representing the victim and the other protagonists. The idea is to know how the facts took place since Le Priol contests premeditation. He claims that he shot because Federico Martin Aramburu, injured, had tackled him and that he felt threatened. Self-defense therefore which could be qualified according to him as violence leading to death without the intention of causing it. He also explains that he was not at the origin of the first altercation and that it was Romain Bouvier who was the first to pull the trigger. Both men were armed with small collector’s pistols dating from the 19th century.

On the day of the tragedy, around 6:45 a.m., Federico Martín-Aramburu had an altercation in front of the Mabillon. A first fight broke out over alcohol. About a hundred meters away, he was hit by two projectiles. When he realizes he has been shot, he and a friend respond physically. More shots go off. The rugby player was hit five times and collapsed in front of number 146 Boulevard Saint-Germain.

The two suspects fled and were arrested a few days later. Former soldier Loïk Le Priol was caught in Hungary, a transit country since he had planned to go to Ukraine. Romain Bouvier, who grew up a stone’s throw from Saint-Germain-des-Prés, was arrested in Sarthe. A man who allegedly helped him flee is indicted for “concealment of a criminal”. A fourth person is indicted in this case, Lyson Rochemir, Le Priol’s partner, for complicity in murder. She is suspected of having driven the Jeep that transported the two men the night of the murder.
