Parliamentary Finance Committee hosts Minister of Communications to discuss maximizing revenues and quality of services

Today, Thursday, the Parliamentary Finance Committee hosted Minister of Communications Hiyam Al-Yasiri to discuss maximizing revenues and quality of services.

The head of the Finance Committee, Atwan Al-Atwani, said in a statement received by the (INA): “We are keen to find solutions to the overlapping powers and tasks between the ministry and the Communications and Media Commission.”
He called for “conducting a comprehensive review of the Ministry of Communications contracts concluded over the past years and amending them on the basis of achieving the public benefit.”
He stressed the “need to introduce new competitors to the Internet market to prevent the monopoly of this sector.”
For her part, the Minister of Communications said: “We have achieved an upward increase in revenues and have transformed all our companies from loss-making to profitable.”
She stressed that “Iraq has become a safe strategic route for passing Internet capacities. Countries are starting to compete to contract with us.” She indicated that “the Internet will witness a significant improvement once the fiber optic equipment project is completed because we will control the distribution of the service.”
She explained that “the ministry is working to activate the landline telephone service by connecting it to optical fibres via advanced devices that we will contract for soon.”
