Parmalee Rides “Cowgirl” to Fifth No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart

Parmalee has achieved its fifth chart-topping single on the Billboard Country Airplay chart with “Cowgirl,” solidifying the band’s position as a consistent force in modern country music. The song experienced a 6% increase in audience impressions,reaching 27.2 million during the week of Nov. 28-Dec. 4, according to data from Luminate.
A New Peak for a Familiar Sound
“Cowgirl” is the lead single from Parmalee’s eighth studio album, Fell in Love With a Cowgirl, which was released in April. The band, comprised of Barry Knox, Josh McSwain, matt Thomas, and Scott Thomas, shares songwriting credit on the track with six additional collaborators, including longtime producer and writer David Fanning.
Fanning previously explained the song’s appeal, stating, “You’re talking about [trucks] and Levi’s and Bud Light, all the things that are country. But that’s the thing about country music.That stuff never does get old. It’s just, how are you gonna say it differently?” This sentiment highlights the song’s embrace of classic country themes presented in a fresh way.
Rising Through the Ranks of Country Groups
Parmalee’s success with “Cowgirl” marks a important milestone in their chart history. As their debut on the Country Airplay chart on July 21, 2012, the band has now tied Lady A for the third-most No. 1 singles among groups with more than two members. Only Old Dominion, with seven No. 1s, and Zac Brown Band, with six, have surpassed their achievement in the same timeframe. Following closely behind are Eli Young Band (three), The Band Perry, Little Big Town, and Rascal Flatts (two each).
Consecutive Hits Build Momentum
This latest success builds on Parmalee’s recent momentum, as “Cowgirl” follows their previous No. 1 hit, “Gonna Love You,” which topped the chart dated Dec. 7, 2024.the band has consistently found success on the charts since their first entry in 2012 with “Musta had a Good Time,” which peaked at No. 38. In December 2013, they achieved their first No. 1 with “Carolina.” Remarkably, all 11 of Parmalee’s singles have reached the Top 40, with eight achieving top 10 status.
