Passengers of Ruby Princess Cruise Ship in San Francisco Face Decision Before Departure

SAN FRANCISCO – The passengers onboard the Ruby Princess cruise ship, which collided with Pier 27 in San Francisco, are faced with a decision ahead of their scheduled departure. The cruise ship is set to leave at 4 p.m. on Sunday, and over 3,000 passengers need to decide whether they want to continue with their trip or not.

Despite the cruise line’s claim that repairs have been completed, there are reports of sparks and grinding noises coming from the damaged area. Passengers like Shannon Puuohau have voiced their concerns about the visible hole in the boat. “I thought it was finished, and we were ready to go,” Puuohau said nervously.

Since the incident on Thursday, the passengers have been making the most of their time onboard, enjoying the ship’s amenities and exploring the city of San Francisco. Many insist that they are not concerned about their safety, especially with the involvement of the Coast Guard and the cruise line’s commitment to resolving the issue.

However, the passengers do have the option to cancel their cruise and receive a full refund, along with a 50% credit for a future trip. Those who choose to continue their trip on the Ruby Princess will receive a 75% refund and a 75% credit for a future voyage.

Some passengers, like Shirley Bartel, have decided to stick with the trip and take advantage of the discount. “We paid for this one, and now we’re going to get paid for the next one!” Bartel exclaimed while exploring San Francisco. She expressed full faith in the safety measures taken by the cruise line.

Due to the delayed departure, the originally planned 10-day voyage to Alaska has been modified to a 7-day trip. Despite the change in itinerary, passengers like Sheryl Shepard remain excited about reaching any port, stating, “Getting to any port is exciting enough.”

The cause of the initial crash is under investigation by the U.S. Coast Guard.
