juan Carlos Andrades of the Senapred emergency response unit explained to AFP that the current weather forecast for Torres del Paine includes sleet and strong winds, severely limiting visibility and increasing the likelihood of hikers straying from designated trails.

Chilean President Gabriel Boric expressed his deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who perished, describing the incident as a “tragedy” in a message posted on X. The United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Growth Office (FCDO) confirmed it is in contact with local authorities regarding the incident.
“We are in contact with the local authorities following an incident in Chile,” an FCDO spokesperson told the Daily Mail.
