Pavement Announces Surprise July Performance, Hints at Future Activity

A sudden return to the stage is in store for Pavement, defying earlier statements suggesting a prolonged hiatus. The band will perform a pre-party show on July 17 at Mosswood Park in Oakland, California, ahead of the Mosswood Meltdown festival.

Despite telling fans its October 2024 New York show would be “its last show for a long time,” the influential indie rock group remained active in 2025, playing two festivals, a club gig, and appearing on CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to coincide with the release of the film Pavements. This latest announcement signals a potential shift in the band’s plans.

Mosswood Meltdown Pre-Party Lineup

The July 17 performance will feature support from Wednesday and fellow reunited indie rockers Vivian Girls. The event will be hosted by filmmaker John Waters, known for his auteur style. Tickets for the pre-party are currently available to the public.

Organizers have indicated that the full lineup for the Mosswood Meltdown festival, taking place July 18-19, will be revealed “in the coming weeks.”

Vintage Pavement Track Surfaces in New Documentary

In addition to the live performance news, fans can now access a previously unreleased recording of Pavement performing “Summer Babe” on May 19, 1992, at the Cattle Club in Sacramento, California. The audio is featured in the recently released documentary Lourder Than You Think, which focuses on the band’s former drummer, Gary Young.

Filmmakers playfully warned listeners on Instagram, stating, “Please beware: side effects of listening to this may include doing headstands in public.”

As of now, no further Pavement shows have been scheduled beyond the July 17 performance, leaving fans to speculate about the band’s future activity.
