jpnn.com, JAKARTA – West Papua Senator Dr. Filep Wamafma appreciated the Southwest Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov) which, through the Education and Culture Service, allocated Special Autonomy (Otsus) funds totaling IDR 100 billion for all universities in the region.

The budget has been prepared and will be presented by the Acting Governor of West Papua at the peak of the commemoration of Education Day on May 2 2024.

“I highly appreciate the Provincial Government of Southwest Papua for allocating IDR 100 billion in Special Autonomy funds to finance all campuses in Southwest Papua. “This policy is a concrete manifestation of implementing the mandate of the Special Autonomy Law, especially in the education sector,” said Senator Filep, Monday (22/4/2024).

Furthermore, Filep Wamafma also appreciated the policy steps taken by the Acting Governor of Southwest Papua regarding the disclosure of information on APBD management sourced from Special Autonomy (Otsus) funds, especially in the education sector in order to provide affirmation for higher education.

“Transparency in the allocation of Special Autonomy by the PBD Provincial Government is the right step. Because the public also expects open information regarding the management of the very large Special Autonomy budget. “Aside from the fact that there are still very many native Papuan children who do not receive higher education,” he said.

“In fact, LLDIKTI Region Meanwhile, the national higher education participation rate has reached 35 percent. “So this policy is expected to increase the participation rate of Papuan children in studying, as well as to improve the quality of human resources for the Papuan generation,” he continued.

Not only that, the chairman of Committee I DPD RI also observed the consistency of the PBD Provincial Government in disbursing Special Autonomy fund allocations for education.

It is known that in 2023, the PBD Provincial Government distributed educational grants worth IDR 11.1 billion to six universities and one foundation in Sorong as a form of attention to advancing education in the region.

Senator Filep Wamafma appreciated the Southwest Papua Provincial Government which, through the Education and Culture Service, allocated a total of IDR 100 billion in Special Autonomy funds.
