PC game reading speed is expected to improve Microsoft announces the opening of DirectStorage API – ezone.hk – Technology Focus – Computer

by time news

Two years ago, Microsoft said that it would introduce the DirectStorage technology used in the Xbox series into the Windows PC platform to improve the speed at which the system reads data from the SSD. Now it has finally been realized, but not completely.

  • DirectStorage Login Win 10/11
  • GPU accelerated SSD reads
  • Technically the same concept as NVIDIA RTX IO

The DirectStorage API on Xbox is a storage system acceleration technology that directly accesses the SSD through the GPU and handles the decompression of game data, which can effectively speed up game loading, reduce latency and CPU load, and many other benefits.

At present, according to the latest official information, DirectStorage will support Windows 10 and 11, and the previous restriction on using NVMe SSD has also been lifted, and both PCIe and SATA can be supported. To use the acceleration technology, the graphics card must support DirectX 12, which is technically the same as the NVIDIA RTX IO concept, but DirectStorage is not limited to the use of NVIDIA graphics cards, including products from AMD and Intel. However, the current first version of DirectStorage cannot be directly decoded through the GPU like the Xbox, but the official promises that it will be provided in the future, and finally has a clear goal.
