PCI-SIG announced earlierPCIe 7.0 version 0.5 revisionand is open to all PCI-SIG members. It is also expected that the official version 1.0 specification will be successfully released in 2025, allowing more industries to design PCIe 7.0 application products in accordance with the specification.
PCI-SIG releases PCIe 7.0 version 0.5 revision and is expected to successfully launch the 1.0 official specification in 2025
PCIe 7.0 version 0.5 mainly continues the revised specification of PCIe 7.0 version 0.3 announced in June last year, including supporting 128GT/s data rate, achieving 512GB/s bidirectional transmission rate in x16 configuration, and supporting PAM4 transmission signal to improve power usage efficiency. It is also backward compatible with older PCIe specifications.
This revised version allows PCIe to further correspond to 800G Ethernet transmission specifications, and can be applied to supercomputing scale computers, quantum computing, cloud collaborative computing, and designs that require higher data transmission rates including artificial intelligence, machine learning, etc. need.
At present, PCIe transmission bandwidth is almost doubling every three years. For example, in PCIe 5.0, it can reach a raw bit transfer rate of 32 GT/s, and through x16 configuration, it can reach a bidirectional bit transfer rate of 128 GB/s. PCIe 6.0 can reach a bit transfer rate of 64 GT/s, and with x16 configuration it can reach a bidirectional bit transfer rate of 256 GB/s. It is expected that the bit transfer rate will increase to 128 GT/s in PCIe 7.0. The x16 configuration can achieve a bidirectional bit transfer rate of 512 GB/s.
