In view of this situation, it is not ruled out that prosecutor Patricio Cooper summons Karamanos, former partner of President Gabriel Boric, to testify as a defendant in this area.

The Investigative Police (PDI) detected a series of bank transactions by Irina Karamanos that they considered suspicious, since they involved millionaire payments to the ProCultura Foundation, involved in the so-called Covenants case.

The report was received by the Aysén prosecutor, Carlos Palma, in charge of the investigations in this area, who days later was suspended by the Public Ministry for his links with the lawyer Luis Hermosilla, in addition to an offer from the partner of Judge Ángela Vivanco to support the candidacy of José Morales as National Prosecutor.

According to El Mostrador, ProCultura is being investigated for going from receiving $316 million in public funds in 2021 to $3.2 billion in 2022, which is why they point to possible crimes of fraud against the Treasury, influence peddling and misappropriation.

In the midst of a series of raids on regional governments in the north and south of the country, the Central Criminalistics Laboratory carried out an accounting expert report that was sent to the Metropolitan Anti-Corruption Brigade of the PDI, which referred it to the prosecutor Patricio Cooper, in charge of the case. after leaving Palma.

The expertise, which included the period between December 30, 2019 and August 31, 2023, where ProCultura’s current accounts at Banco Santander were analyzed and it was detected that one had the greatest number of movements.

Thus, between December 30, 2019 and November 30, 2020, the foundation added payments of $1,233,049,286, while between February 26, 2021 and August 31, 2023, the movements added up to a total of $14,228,555,334.

For the PDI, the ProCultura Foundation applied for regional funds to carry out projects that it did not execute, but rather outsourced to other organizations or individuals, who subsequently issued receipts for the total amounts awarded, but given that the real cost was minor, he repaid those monies to the foundation through payments.

It was in this way that at least five subscriptions from Irina Karamanos to ProCultura were found between August 2, 2021 and January 3, 2022, which for the Public Ministry would be the reimbursement of resources for the concept “Recreo, we like the art”, same name of a project carried out by the foundation with financing from the Ministry of Cultures.

In view of this situation, it is not ruled out that prosecutor Patricio Cooper summons Karamanos, former partner of President Gabriel Boric, to testify as a defendant in this area.
