local Collaboration Creates Calmer Emergency Room Experience for Children in Greene County
A partnership between the Patient Family Advisory Council (PFAC) adn the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson has led to significant, child-focused improvements within the Greene County Medical Center’s emergency department. These enhancements aim to reduce anxiety and provide a more comforting habitat for young patients facing medical emergencies.
The initiative stemmed from direct feedback provided by the Patient Family Advisory Council, a committee comprised of healthcare professionals, patients, family members, and community members.According to a senior hospital official, the group recognized a critical need for a more welcoming space for children navigating stressful emergency situations.
“A plan was created to bring their vision to life,” the official explained, “and the Kiwanis Club made a generous $500 donation to the Greene County Medical Center Foundation in September that made it a reality.”
The funds were strategically allocated to create a more soothing atmosphere for pediatric patients. The improvements include the installation of a vibrant new mural in a frequently used pediatric emergency room, the provision of comforting stuffed bears emblazoned with the Greene County medical Center logo, and the distribution of water-based coloring books for children to enjoy during and after their visit.
“This type of collaboration is a hallmark in Greene County,” the official stated. “People coming together to shape and support improvements helps us continue providing a compassionate and comforting environment for all of our patients.”
The Kiwanis Club of Jefferson has a long-standing commitment to improving the lives of children and families within the community. This donation exemplifies the club’s dedication to supporting initiatives that ensure children have the resources they need to thrive, aligning their mission with the healthcare center’s focus on patient well-being.
