The general director of Olympique de Marseille, Pedro Iriondo, childhood friend of Pablo Longoria, its president, is leaving the club, OM announced on Saturday in a press release. Arriving in Marseille in 2021, Iriondo was one of four leaders, including Longoria himself, whose representatives of supporters groups had demanded the departure in September during a stormy meeting, after which the club management decided to indent.
This meeting sealed the departure, a few weeks after his arrival at the club, of Spanish coach Marcelino and sporting director Javier Ribalta, two others close to Longoria. With the departure of Iriondo, it is the end of the “clan of Spaniards” established by Longoria in 2021, when he went from sporting director of the club to president, at the age of 35.
