For the first time since the beginning of the movement against the pension reform, the tempo differs within the inter-union. Asked about the follow-up to be given to the mobilization, the secretary general of the CFDT, Laurent Berger, called in our columns to “break (r) the house in number of demonstrators in the street” on May 1. “There will be gathering places all over the country,” he promised.

But the CGT does not seem to want to wait so long to be heard. In a press release published this Saturday, the new leader of the union, Sophie Binet, proposed to “workers and (to) workers (to) continue the mobilization in all its peaceful forms, in particular with the highlights by the territories and professions on the 20th and April 28”.

A “historic” May Day

The four SNCF unions have already announced “a day of expression of railway anger” this Thursday, presented as a “preparatory stage” for the May 1 demonstrations.

Despite this small nuance between the CGT and the CFDT, Sophie Binet still assured in her press release – just like Laurent Berger with Le Parisien – that the inter-union remained “united” to make May 1 a “historic moment of mobilizations” .

The promulgation of the amending Social Security financing law, less than 24 hours after its validation – in broad outline – by the Constitutional Council, made opponents of the reform jump, who reacted in large numbers over the course of the day Saturday.
