At least 10 people died in a fire in a building in Urumqi, Xinjiang. Many were injured. Bystanders alleged that restrictions were partly responsible for the loss of life, fueling public anger. Access to a part of the building was restricted due to covid. Due to this, allegations are being made on social media that many people could not escape when the fire broke out. Officials are denying this.
