Puducherry: People from Villupuram are the most frequent visitors to Jipmar for cancer treatment. 2nd is Cuddalore and 3rd is Puducherry.

There are various treatments available for cancer. In the small state of Puducherry, cancer patients who approach a government hospital for treatment have to go to Jipmar Hospital for radiotherapy treatment.

The regional cancer treatment center in Jipmar is not only new but also from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal. Due to this, there is a huge influx of patients in the cancer department at Jipmar. When asked about Jipmar cancer treatment, “377 people have been treated in November last year, 291 people in December and 368 people in January last year.

In this, people from Villupuram are on the first place, people from Cuddalore district on the 2nd place and Puducherry on the 3rd place. People from Thanjavur in 4th place, Nagai in 5th place, Tiruvannamalai district in 6th place and Pudukottai in 7th place.

More women than men are cancer patients visiting Zipmar. People between the ages of 41 and 60 are most affected by cancer. Specifically, 55% of those who came to Jibmar in January were 41-60 years old, 29% were 61-80 years old, 13% were 21-40 years old, 2% were under 20 years old, and 1% were over 80 years old.

“Of these, 104 were treated for head and neck cancer, 42 for breast cancer, 41 for cervical cancer, 24 for esophageal cancer, 21 for stomach cancer, 20 for lung cancer and 18 for rectal cancer.”

What about Puducherry?: 41 people from Puducherry received cancer treatment in November, 41 in December and 45 in January. Regarding this, the families of the cancer patients said, “Radio therapy treatment center should be set up in Puducherry Kathirgamam Government Hospital.

Chief Minister Rangaswamy said, “People mainly from Pudu have been waiting for several months in Jibmar for Radiotherapy treatment. When asked about this in the health department, Chief Minister Rangasamy urged Union Minister of State for Health Bharti Praveen Pawar, who visited Pudu last December, to provide Rs. 200 crores for setting up Radiotherapy treatment center.

He promised to take action by sending a proposal to the treatment center. Subsequently, the government has started the preliminary work to set up a treatment center by getting funds from the central government,” he said.

Vaccination program needed for Paducherry: Puduwai State BJP special invitee A.V. Veeraragavan said, “The central government is planning to administer the HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer. Girls aged 9 to 14 years will be given this injection to prevent cervical cancer.

In the first phase, the central government is going to start vaccination in 6 states namely Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh in June. A total of 2 crore 55 lakh girls have been targeted for vaccination in these states.

At the same time, the statistics of Jipmar Cancer Regional Research Institute show that Puduwai State has a relatively high incidence of cancer. The percentage of women is also higher. Therefore, a petition has been sent on behalf of the public to the central government urging the implementation of the cervical vaccination program in Puducherry along with the above 6 states,” he said.
