“Zhoghovurd” newspaper writes. Tigran Khzmalyan’s “European Party of Armenia” has changed its candidate for mayor. In 2022, Khzmalyan announced with great enthusiasm that singer, songwriter Ruben Hakhverdyan is the candidate of the European Party of Armenia in the mayoral elections of Yerevan. At that time, Khzmalyan described Hakhverdyan as “honest, sincere, fair. Ordinary genius. A real Yerevanite. A true citizen. A true European. The cream of the nation.”
According to “Zhoghovurd” daily, the European Party has changed its candidate for mayor. now their candidate is sociologist Karen Sargsyan. “Zhoghovurd” daily asked Tigran Khzmalyan, the chairman of the European Party, what is the reason for this, were there problems with Hakhverdyan, or did he refuse to run for office.
“Ruben Hakhverdyan’s candidacy was our answer to some absurd candidates. With that, we wanted to remind the exceptional value and importance of Yerevan for our country, culture and dignity. Later, we tried to create an alliance of democratic forces with parties that are ideologically in the same field. After discussions and negotiations, the proposal of the HEPC was accepted by the oldest democratic structure of Armenia, “Social-Democrat Honchakyan”. Karen Sargsyan was elected the joint candidate of our two parties. Ruben remains our best friend and supporter,” he said.
