The link established between anatomy and control devices such as the panopticon crystallize a The shadow under the eyelid. Anatomy of the eccentric bodywhich can be visited in the chapel of Sant Nicolau de Girona until January 28.

The recreation of an anatomical theater and a panopticon with a large wooden structure inside the chapel is the central element of the exhibition, articulated from three individual pieces in an installation format that form a thematic unit.

Dialogue with the architecture that surrounds it, the artist Pep Aymerich has erected a structure that relocates the model of the Admetlla installation on a large scale for reproduce the space where the dissections of corpses were staged for medical studies. It has the form of a panopticon because, on the one hand, it evokes the most conceptual and social part of the architectural representation of control, and on the other, it emulates the anatomical shape of the eye.

Inside, some stands allow you to contemplate a projection on a deformed surface, as if it were the retina, taking the shape of an eye and turning the viewer into an optic nerve or, also, into the thing looked at, because the starting hypothesis of the project is that, in the digital world, to look is to be looked at.

The memory that helps to read the present focuses on the new season of the Bòlit

Like this, inside the panopticon there is no longer the watchman’s tower or the dissection table of the anatomical theatres, but the spectators of an audiovisual piece that combines images from the show known as the Wall of Death with those of the construction of the structure. This process is also collected with annotations, drawings and models.

During the exhibition, the panopticon will also become a meeting space for complementary activities, such as a clandestine session or an anatomy jam session for the children.

The second element is a piece rescued from the warehouses of the Museu d’Història de Girona during the year and a half that the research process for the exhibition has lasted. It is a sculpture in the form of an anatomical model skinned -a human figure without the skin-, which refers both to anatomy and to our digital exhibition. His hands are missing and a bag covers his head, referring to individual vulnerability and the loss of autonomy in favor of technological artifacts.

The last piece is an interactive eye-shaped limbic device made with the collaboration of the artist Nicolás Saganías. The artifact carries a system of sensors that, whenever someone approaches it, emits a light that momentarily blinds them. They also sit there some texts read by an artificial intelligence, with fragments chosen by the director of the Center d’Art Contemporani de Girona and curator of the exhibition Ingrid Guardiola of classic texts from literature on control alternating with speeches by Trump or Hitler.
