In Finland, off the coast of the city of Turku, a sun perch (Centrarchus macropterus) was discovered, which can attack and bite people. It is reported by broadcasting corporation YLE.
“The sun perch makes spawning holes, which it aggressively defends. If you accidentally swim near the spawning ground, the perch will definitely bite you,” said Juha Ojaharju, a spokesman for the freelance fishermen’s association, in a media comment.
He added that the perch does not have large teeth, but it can “pinch” with them.
This species is uncharacteristic and invasive for the Baltic Sea, that is, it negatively changes its new habitat. Representative of the Natural Resources Institute of Finland Sanna Kuningas asked fellow citizens to report the case of finding such fish.
