Pereira’s Éxito Foundation Program Expands Support for Mothers and Children

A successful initiative providing vital nutrition and family support in Pereira, Colombia, is expanding to reach an additional 50 families, building on eight months of positive impact for vulnerable mothers and their children.

The program, a collaboration between the Éxito Foundation and the Pereira Mayor’s Office, culminated in a celebratory event at the Metropolitan Coffee Park on November 24, 2025, attended by over 220 children and 150 families. The initiative initially focused on providing aid to 150 women, but will now extend its reach to 200 families in total.

Strengthening Families Through Comprehensive Support

The program’s success stems from a holistic approach that goes beyond simply providing food aid. A senior official stated, “This beautiful process has been about accompanying women and providing them with financial aid and a market that will strengthen the nutrition of their children.” Participants receive support not only for nutritional needs, but also through self-care and family support workshops, fostering stronger family bonds and individual well-being.

The eight-month program specifically targeted 150 pregnant and lactating mothers, offering crucial resources during a critical period. According to a project leader, the program included two key training sessions: one focused on adequate stimulation for babies and another, in partnership with the Amas Foundation, designed to empower mothers in their roles at home.

Beneficiary Testimonials Highlight Program Impact

The impact of the program is powerfully illustrated through the experiences of its beneficiaries. One participant, Denis Hinestroza Ramírez, expressed profound gratitude, stating, “I am very grateful to Mayor Mauricio Salazar and the managers of the Éxito program. It has been invaluable help.” Ramírez shared a personal story of overcoming challenges during pregnancy, explaining that the program’s provision of nutrients, fruits, and vegetables enabled her to maintain a healthy diet and deliver her baby in optimal conditions.

Future Expansion and Continued Investment

Looking ahead, the program is slated to continue through 2026, with a commitment to expanding its coverage and refining strategies that have demonstrably improved the lives of mothers and children. A senior official confirmed the expansion, stating, “there will no longer be 150 families, but 200 families who will benefit.” This continued investment underscores the program’s value and its potential to create lasting positive change within the community.
