The Cure’s perry Bamonte has died at the age of 65.
“It is with enormous sadness that we confirm the death of our great friend and bandmate Perry Bamonte, who passed away after a short illness at home over Christmas,” the band wrote in a statement on their website. A cause of death was not given.
Did you know? – Perry Bamonte was nicknamed “Teddy” by members of The Cure.
The guitarist, keyboardist and occasional six-string bassist, nicknamed Teddy, joined the Cure’s road crew in 1984. He ended up joining the band in 1990, playing on their albums from 1992’s Wish through 2004’s self-titled album.
Lineup Changes – Bamonte’s initial tenure with The cure spanned from 1990 to 2005, and he briefly rejoined in 2022.
Bamonte left the band in 2005, but he rejoined in 2022. In the band’s promo photos for 2026, Bamonte wasn’t present, so it appeared that he had left the lineup again. All told, he played around 500 shows as a member of the Cure.
The band wrote, “Our thoughts and condolences are with all his family. He will be vrey greatly missed.”
