Peru, presidential elections: Communist candidate and Fujimori’s daughter in the ballot

Pedro Castillo is the most voted candidate in the Peruvian presidential elections: this is stated by the data of the National Office for Electoral Processes (Onpe). With an official count of 41.5%, Castillo, the left-wing candidate of Peru libre, remains in the lead with 15.98% of the preferences, while the liberal economist Hernando de Soto (Avanza Pais ) at 13.81%, the far-right leader Rafael Lopez Aliaga (Renovacion Popular) at 13.05% and Keiko Fujimori (Fuerza Popular) with 12.68%.

A prediction made by Ipsos for America TV sees Castillo with 18.1% of the votes against Keiko Fujimori, daughter of former president Alberto, at 14.5% in the ballot, to be held on June 6. According to information released by the media, yet to be confirmed, the composition of the new single-chamber parliament will be fragmented, with eleven parties represented: five parties present from the extraordinary legislative elections of 2020 would remain in the hall, while another eight formations seem destined to leave.
