Peskov: recognition of the LPR and the DPR does not correlate with the Minsk agreements

by time news

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that Russia’s official recognition of the self-proclaimed Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics does not correlate with the Minsk agreements. On February 15, the State Duma asked Vladimir Putin to recognize the DNR and LNR. Yesterday, the Russian leader, commenting on the appeal, said that in solving the problems of Donbass he would continue to proceed from the Minsk agreements.

“Of course, recognition does not correlate with the Minsk agreements. This is true,” Peskov said. According to him, President Vladimir Putin said that the implementation of the Minsk agreements is the main task.

Yesterday, the State Duma approved a resolution of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation on an appeal to the President of Russia on the need to recognize the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR). The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that they would regard the recognition of the LPR and the DPR as Russia’s withdrawal from the Minsk agreements.

Vladimir Putin, at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, said that the State Duma, having addressed it with a request to recognize entities in the Donbass, is guided by public opinion. According to the president, the vast majority of Russians sympathize with the residents of Donbass.

Mr. Putin then said that in his actions he would proceed from the fact that not all the possibilities for the implementation of the Minsk agreements had yet been realized. “We very much hope that our partners both overseas and in Europe, primarily Germany and France, will have an appropriate influence on the current authorities in Kiev and this solution will be found,” he said.
