Binghamton Swimmers Peters and Ivanow Dominate America East Weekly Honors

Binghamton University swimmers Evan Peters and Julia Ivanow have been recognized for their outstanding performances, earning the America East Men’s Swimmer of the Week and Women’s Rookie of the Week awards, respectively, the conference announced on Tuesday. This marks Ivanow’s third consecutive recognition as the top rookie.

Peters Sets Pool Records, Leads Bearcats

Sophomore Evan Peters delivered a dominant performance, securing victories in four individual events and contributing to a first-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle relay during Binghamton’s recent competition against Bryant. Peters’ winning times included a blazing 1:38.97 in the 200-meter freestyle, 4:36.96 in the 500-meter freestyle, 9:34.96 in the 1,000-meter freestyle, and 4:00.11 in the 400-meter individual medley.

Remarkably, three of these victories – in the 200-meter freestyle, 500-meter freestyle, and 400-meter individual medley – established new pool records. Currently, Peters holds the top ranking in the America East conference for the 200-meter freestyle, 500-meter freestyle, and 400-meter individual medley, with his 1,000-meter freestyle time placing second.

Ivanow Continues Stellar Rookie Season

Freshman Julia Ivanow continued to impress, sweeping both the 100-meter breaststroke (1:03.27) and the 200-meter breaststroke (2:15.89) in Binghamton’s dual meet against Bryant. These times currently lead the America East conference.

Ivanow’s achievement is particularly noteworthy as she becomes the first Binghamton women’s swimmer to receive the conference’s rookie of the week award three times throughout her career. This consistent recognition underscores her immediate impact on the Bearcats’ swimming program.

Looking Ahead: Bucknell Invitational

The Binghamton swim team will next compete at the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday, beginning at noon. This event will provide a valuable opportunity for the team to test their skills against a wider range of competition and build momentum as the season progresses.
