Teatro Cervantes Breaks Attendance Records, Ushers in New Era with PLATEA Network Inclusion

The Teatro Cervantes in Petrer, Spain, has achieved record-breaking attendance figures, welcoming 17,054 spectators in 2025 and solidifying its position as a cultural hub. This success coincides with the theater’s inaugural year as part of the prestigious PLATEA network, a State Program for the Circulation of Performing Arts Shows.

Sustained Growth in a Thriving Cultural Scene

The Cervantes theater has demonstrated consistent growth in recent years. Attendance figures rose from 12,091 in 2023 to 16,755 in 2024,culminating in the record-breaking 17,054 in 2025. This growth is largely attributed to the Ministry of Culture through the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM), is a important growth for the Teatro Cervantes. This partnership has enabled the theater to attract top-tier national productions and expand its programming. Officials are confident that continued success will ensure the theater’s ongoing participation in the network, stating, “With thes numbers we think that we will continue in the PLATEA network.”

January – March 2026 Programming Highlights

The Teatro cervantes has unveiled a diverse and compelling program for the first quarter of 2026, featuring 15 shows, including several supported by PLATEA funding. Key performances include:

  • “In the middle of so much fire” on January 31.
  • “Polar,” starring Secun de la Rosa, on February 13.
  • A circus performance of “Yuguen” on february 28.
  • The dance production “Carmencita and the wolf,” featuring local artist Teresa Poveda, on March 7.
  • “Madness” by the renowned Yllana theater company.

The program also features a strong lineup of monologues, including performances by Miki Dkai on February 5, Raul Anton on February 26, Cabra Fotuda with a Valencian-language performance on March 12, and David Dominguez on March 26. All monologues are scheduled for 9:30 p.m.

Family-Friendly and Local Productions

The Teatro Cervantes continues to cater to a broad audience with dedicated family programming. Shows include “The Smug Little Rat” on January 25, “The small world of music” on February 8, and a return performance of “Journey to Oz, The Musical” by Trendacís on March 22. Local talent will also be showcased with performances like “Alone with Lorca” by Talanteatrón on January 24 and a preview of “Place, looking to fit in” by Quique Montoya on January 30, offered in both Spanish and Valencian.
