President Gustavo Petro has announced a new change in his ministerial cabinet. Through his X account, he confirmed that María Constanza García will take over as Minister of Transport, replacing William Camargo.

María Constanza García, who until now served as Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, has extensive experience in the sector. Previously, she was Secretary of Mobility in the Bogotá Mayor’s Office during Petro’s mandate. Her appointment comes at a crucial time for the country, with important projects underway and significant challenges in the area of ​​transportation.

In his message, President Petro expressed his gratitude to William Camargo for his dedication and effort.: “María Constanza García will be the new Minister of Transport. I thank William Camargo for his dedication and effort. Go ahead with the railways and rural roads,” he wrote.

For his part, William Camargo expressed his gratitude to the president for the opportunity to have contributed to the proposed changes: “We left behind advanced processes in Community Roads and the reactivation of the railway with confidence in the mode by the generators. A series of projects in progress on river and airport issues, an agenda in development with the issues of cargo and energy transition and the processes to connect historically excluded territories with road infrastructure,” said Camargo.

María Constanza García Alicastro, born in Cúcuta in 1977, is a civil engineer from the Universidad de La Salle, a specialist in Transportation from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and a Master in Development Management from the Universidad Externado de Colombia. With more than 20 years of experience in the public sector, she has stood out in key roles related to the planning, formulation, structuring, design, and implementation of infrastructure, transportation, and sustainable urban mobility projects. Among the most relevant positions she has held are: Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of the Ministry of Transportation, acting director of the National Roads Institute – Invías, District Secretary of Mobility of Bogotá, and technical director of projects of the Urban Development Institute – IDU.
