Berlin – The Berlin Philharmonic will broadcast their traditional New Year’s Eve concert in around 350 European cinemas on December 31st. Under the direction of chief conductor Kirill Petrenko, the internationally renowned orchestra has planned a program with works by Richard Wagner (1813-1883).

The focus is on the first act of “Walküre”, one of the few parts in Wagner’s “Ring of the Nibelung”, which lasts around 16 hours, that is dominated by – albeit incestuous – love. According to information from Friday, the singing roles include tenor Jonas Kaufmann as Siegmund, soprano Vida Miknevičiūtė as Sieglinde and bass Georg Zeppenfeld as Hunding.

Overture and “The Venusberg” from Wagner’s “Tannhäuser” also come live from the Philharmonie Berlin to cinemas in Germany and ten other countries.
