Video recorded by photographer Cassiano “Zapa” Zaniboni and published on his social networks shows an otter during its feeding in a river in the Pantanal region, a biome present in the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul.

The animal appears feeding on a fish while swimming. “An otter having breakfast ‘on the run’ in the Pantanal. We were extremely lucky to watch a family of these magnificent animals hunt for nearly an hour! One of several records of our trip to the Brazilian Pantanal”, wrote Zaniboni.

“These charming animals are essential for the health of aquatic ecosystems, acting as natural predators and helping to maintain the balance of wildlife”, published the page “Pantanal Oficial” regarding these images.

Known as the water jaguar or giant otter, the otter is a mustelid mammal characteristic of the Pantanal and the Amazon River basin, in South America, and can reach up to 1.7 meters. The species was classified as “endangered” due to factors such as deforestation and river pollution.
