Pikmin Bloom Ushers in New Year with Osechi Event, Exclusive Rewards

A new event has launched in Niantic’s augmented reality mobile game, Pikmin Bloom, offering players a chance to collect unique Pikmin, outfits, and items inspired by the Japanese New Year tradition of osechi. The event, running throughout January, centers around completing quests to obtain koma tops and battling magnificent mushrooms for exclusive rewards.
Koma Tops and Festive Pikmin
At the start of the event, players will receive quests focused on acquiring koma tops. Successfully completing these challenges will unlock special Pikmin seedlings adorned with 2024 glasses and event-themed outfits for their Mii avatar. It’s important to note that 2024 goggles are not available for Frost Pikmin.
Koma tops can be earned through a variety of in-game activities, including completing Event Challenges, planting flowers, and destroying Magnificent Mushrooms to obtain Mystery Boxes. Players can also purchase them directly through a Premium Event Pass, Limited Time Bundle, or Web Store Exclusive Bundle. However, these koma tops are event-specific and will disappear once the event concludes, serving no purpose beyond the current timeframe.
Magnificent Mushrooms and Weekend Battles
A key component of the event involves battling Magnificent Mushrooms. Destroying these mushrooms yields Mystery Boxes containing koma spinning tops and Pikmin seedlings disguised as a 2025 Confetti Launcher. According to a company release, Pikmin disguised as osechi, a 2025 confetti thrower, with 2024 glasses, and with 2023 glasses are particularly effective against these mushrooms.
Players can obtain 2023 Glasses-Disguised Pikmin Seedlings through special tickets available in the in-game store, as they are not directly obtainable as event rewards.
During weekends, Giant Magnificent Mushrooms will appear, offering a chance to earn rare Mystery Boxes. These weekends also introduce the Mushroom Battle Megaphone, allowing players to team up with friends up to three times a day to tackle these formidable foes. The Giant Magnificent Mushrooms will be available on the following weekends:
- January 3 and 4
- January 10 and 11
- January 17 and 18
- January 24 and 25
- January 31
Exclusive Offers and In-Store Items
Niantic is offering a range of exclusive items through the Pikmin Bloom web store. The Exclusive Osechi Event Package, available from December 31 at 15:00 to January 31 at 08:59 (UTC), is designed to help players complete all Event Challenges, including petals for all required flowers, mushroom refill tickets, and a generous supply of koma tops.
Additional items available from January 1 at 00:00 to January 31 at 23:59 (local time) include Flower Bundles (Butterfly Orchids and Camellias) containing koma tops and petals, and an osechi event gift pack perfect for sending to fellow Bloom friends. Players can also purchase stylish New Year’s themed Mii outfits.
A variety of Special Mission Tickets are also available, offering golden seedlings of Pikmin disguised as 2023 glasses, osechi, a confetti launcher 2025, and 2024 glasses. These tickets require completing specific missions, with completion deadlines extending into 2026 and 2027.
Players who invite friends and family to join Pikmin Bloom between January 1 and January 31 will receive golden seedlings disguised as red, yellow, blue, purple, white, winged, stone, or icy osechi.
Niantic reminds players to ensure they are using app version v134.5 or later to ensure osechi-disguised Pikmin appear correctly.
