Aberdeen’s P&J Live has concluded 2025 with a important achievement, earning recognition from A Greener Future (AGF) as one of Europe’s leading sustainable arenas. Teh venue demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental responsibility throughout the year, undergoing rigorous assessment and independent auditing to secure the certification.
A Commitment to Comprehensive Sustainability
The certification from AGF, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing sustainability within the global event sector, was awarded following a thorough evaluation process. This included self-assessment, detailed site visits, analysis of post-event evidence, and a comprehensive report from independent auditors. The evaluation spanned eleven key areas of sustainability, encompassing local environments, community engagement, travel impacts, food sourcing, energy consumption, water management, waste reduction, equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), and governance practices.
According to a statement from AGF, “Venues are the backbone of the live indoor sector and touring circuit. The more venues that take sustainability seriously, the more artists have a song sheet to sing from that connects with their values and perpetuates a greener event sector for everyone. Hats off to the greener arenas and venues who make the grade in 2025.”
P&J Live’s Green Initiatives
Rob Wicks, Managing director of P&J Live, emphasized that “Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do here in Aberdeen.” The venue’s dedication is exemplified by its on-site green energy center, which provides cooling, heating, and power not only for the arena but also for its two adjacent hotels. Further initiatives include the innovative Guardians of Grub food waste program, the provision of EV charging stations, and the implementation of hydrogen buses serving the venue.
“There’s still more to do as we stride into 2026, but we are most definitely on the right trajectory,” Wicks added.
International Recognition and Future Awards
A formal certification ceremony will be held on February 24, 2026, in London, as part of the International AGF Awards ceremony. This event coincides with the Green Events & Innovations (GEI18) Conference, in partnership with the International Live Music Conference (ILMC).
Venues achieving AGF certification are automatically considered for the International AGF Awards, which celebrate innovation and sustainability across the events industry. the awards, sponsored by Skydiamond, will recognize achievements in categories including the international Greener Festival award (supported by Earth Positive Future), the Greener Power Award (supported by geopura), and the Greener Arena Award.
