Bangalore-based Mayank Nagauri, along with his brother Bhuvan, runs a startup called Good-Gum. Through this, they are saving both environment and health by making plastic free healthy chewing gum.
Do you know, we are not only using plastic but are also eating it. Yes, our favorite chewing gum is made of PVA (Polyvinyl Acetate) which is used to make tires and glue.
Whereas, social networking site Research Gate It has been told in the report that every year more than 105 tons of plastic waste goes to the landfill.
To make matters worse, it is very difficult to collect or track this waste. Mayank Nagauri of Bengaluru has found an eco-friendly and healthy alternative to this serious problem. He is making the country’s first plastic-free and fully biodegradable chewing gum through his startup ‘Good Gum’. Since its launch in 2022, it has saved over 700 kg of plastic gum from landfills by selling over 5 lakh gums.
Mayank has been aware of the environment since childhood. He told that there is minimum use of plastic in his family. In such a situation, once he came to know from his school teacher that plastic is used in chewing gum, he stopped eating it. He had made up his mind to find an eco-friendly alternative to it since his school days.
Mayank, a student of Food Science, was doing a job after his studies. At the same time, the thought of fulfilling his dream was always in his mind. He started the work with a small research, in which he asked many people in Bangalore, what is chewing gum made of? Most people didn’t even know it contained plastic.
After this research, he started working vigorously on an eco-friendly alternative to chewing gum. Eventually, they came to know about the gum emanating from the tree. This plant base gum is made in America which is completely eco-friendly. By importing the raw material of this gum from America, he made the country’s first plastic free chewing gum and launched it in the market under the name of Good-Gum. Available in different natural flavours, this Gud-Gum is a true example of a sustainable startup.
