Virtual K-pop group PLAVE is set to release its second single album, “PLBBUU,” on Monday, signaling a deliberate stylistic evolution for the innovative act. The release, slated for 6 p.m. KST, arrives approximately nine months after the group’s third mini-album, “Caligo Pt.1,” and represents a move away from previous darker themes toward a more vibrant and playful aesthetic.
A New Collaboration with Sanrio Korea
The upcoming album is notable for a strategic collaboration with Sanrio Korea, the Japanese company renowned for characters like Hello Kitty and My Melody. According to a statement from VLAST, PLAVE’s management label, the partnership will seamlessly integrate PLAVE’s established animated universe with Sanrio’s signature cuteness. This crossover is expected to resonate with fans of both brands.
Tracklist and Musical Direction
“PLBBUU” will feature three tracks: the title song “BBUU!,” alongside “Hide and Seek” and “Bongsoonga.” The led single, “BBUU!,” is described as blending a breezy R&B rhythm with upbeat lyrics, with the song’s title itself derived from an onomatopoeia representing puckered lips. Reports indicate the accompanying music video will showcase PLAVE’s members transforming into dolls and interacting with iconic Sanrio characters, further emphasizing the album’s whimsical tone.
In contrast to the energetic “BBUU!,” “Hide and Seek” promises a more emotional depth, showcasing the group’s signature band-driven sound. This track is a Korean-language rendition of PLAVE’s Japanese debut single, “Kakurenbo,” retaining the original’s gentle sentiment while adapting it for a korean-speaking audience. Rounding out the album, “Bongsoonga” offers a warm and inviting soundscape, incorporating soft guitar melodies inspired by the Korean tradition of dyeing fingernails with balsam flowers.
building Momentum After a Triumphant Tour
The release of “PLBBUU” follows the conclusion of PLAVE’s inaugural Asian tour, “DASH: Quantum Leap.” The tour, which began in Seoul in August, spanned six cities – Taipei, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Bangkok, and Tokyo – and is set to culminate with encore concerts at Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome on November 21 and 22.
