PlayStation Plus Adds Mafia and Horizon Forbidden West

PlayStation Plus is rolling out its October 2026 catalog update, headlined by the linear mob prequel Mafia: The Old Country and the return of Guerrilla Games’ open-world sequel Horizon Forbidden West for Extra and Premium subscribers on October 20.

Subscribers to Sony’s subscription service are getting a diverse mix of blockbusters, retro classics, and day-one console releases this month. While those on the Essential tier already received F1 2025, Hunt: Showdown 1896, and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 earlier in the month, members on the Extra and Premium tiers gain access to a substantial wave of additional titles across a staggered release schedule throughout October.

Mafia: The Old Country and Horizon Forbidden West Lead the Extra Lineup

The standout addition for October is Mafia: The Old Country, a prequel set in the early 1900s that shifts the franchise away from its recent open-world formula into a tighter, more focused linear narrative. Players step into the shoes of Enzo Favara as he proves his worth to the Torrisi crime family amidst the brutal Sicilian underworld.

In addition to organized crime, the prequel touches upon real-world labor struggles and poverty that shaped early 20th-century Sicily. Mafia: The Old Country is a sobering reminder that tough times still create a breeding ground for exploitation today, just as they did in Sicily, noted Polygon in its review of the title.

Joining the mob story is Horizon Forbidden West, which returns to the subscription service after leaving in 2024. Aloy’s post-apocalyptic journey west brings players face-to-face with new robotic creatures, rival factions, and a mysterious plague.

Subscribers diving into Mafia: The Old Country find themselves immersed in an era when skill with a stiletto blade was a deadly asset, a lupara sawed-off shotgun served as a primary firearm, murderous vendettas raged for decades, and mafiosi patrolled protection rackets on foot, horseback, or behind the wheel of turn-of-the-century motorcars. IGN previously awarded the title an 8/10 rating, praising its immersive world, excellent writing, and stellar performances.

Alongside the mob prequel, Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West brings back its sprawling post-apocalyptic adventure. The title previously earned a 9/10 review score upon release, cementing its status as one of the most respected first-party games available on the PlayStation 5 platform.

Day-One Co-Op Shooters and Staggered October Release Dates

Sony continues its recent practice of staggering catalog rollouts rather than dropping every game on a single day. Dark fantasy adventure The Midnight Walk launches on October 14, while the heavy hitters arrive on October 20. The final wave of titles drops on October 27, including toy factory horror sequel Poppy Playtime: Chapter 2, Tales of Arise — Beyond the Dawn Edition, and Monster Energy Supercross 25 – The Official Video Game.

Mycopunk arrives on the catalog as a day-one console release after spending over a year in Steam early access. The title features fast-paced co-op action where players battle hordes of fungal enemies utilizing an arsenal of futuristic weaponry.

Monster Energy Supercross 25 leverages Unreal Engine 5 to deliver realistic physics and dynamic track evolution, allowing players to master the flow with open tutorials, a comprehensive wiki, and Neural Technology riding aids.

Classic Additions and Premium Member Perks

Subscribers on the highest subscription tier gain access to retro additions, including Capcom’s survival horror title Dino Crisis 2 alongside RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition on October 20. Premium members also secure access to new game trials for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy and Mortal Shell II.

Additionally, Premium tier members gain access to game trials for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl and MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls during the month. The additions form part of Sony’s broader bonus offerings for the subscription tiers, sitting alongside the regular monthly rotation.
