In five days, Slovaks collected over 2.7 million euros in the Weapons for Ukraine campaign. The inhabitants of the neighboring country are thus reacting to the fact that Robert Fico’s government refused to support the Czech initiative to purchase ammunition for Ukraine.
The first episode of the E40 podcast | Video: Martin Novák, Kateřina Šafaříková
In the podcast Aktuálně.cz E40 – Across the Continent, journalists Kateřina Šafaříková and Martin Novák talk about whether the current Slovak government is pro-Russian and whether more people in Slovakia gravitate towards Russia than in the Czech Republic. In principle, they answer yes to both questions, although they are under no illusions that Czechs are more immune to Russian propaganda than Slovaks. “The myth of good Russian liberators works more in Slovakia,” says Novák.

The topic of the podcast is also the comments of some Slovaks on social networks, who write that Czechs should not consider Slovaks pro-Russian, because in the Czech Republic the ANO movement is clearly leading in the polls and would comfortably form a majority government with the SPD.
“No one from the leadership of ANO publishes opinions such as those published by Robert Fico. For example, that the war was started by Ukrainian Nazis or that Vladimir Putin is falsely demonized in Europe,” says Kateřina Šafaříková, a former correspondent for Aktuálně.cz and Hospodářské noviny in Brussels.
In this episode, the special guest of the E40 podcast is Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský (Pirates). At the end, he will tell his interesting Slovak preference.
