A groundbreaking three-day event dedicated to lifelong learning concluded successfully in Pohang, South Korea, attracting over 10,000 attendees and highlighting the region’s commitment to educational innovation. The ‘my12 Gyeongsangbuk-do Lifelong Learning Fair-2025 Pohang,’ which ran from May 5th to May 26th, featured a diverse range of exhibits and experiences, solidifying Pohang’s position as a leading city in lifelong education.
A Regional Showcase of Learning Opportunities
The expo, encompassing 150 organizations from 22 cities and counties within Gyeongsangbuk-do, boasted the largest number of experiential booths in its history. Attendees were immersed in a variety of learning opportunities, from hands-on workshops to engaging lectures. The event served as a platform to showcase the unique lifelong learning initiatives of each participating region.
The opening ceremony featured performances by popular trot singer Jeon Yu-jin and vocalist Seok-Hoon Lee, setting a celebratory tone for the festival of learning. The expo culminated in a closing ceremony that reflected on past achievements and celebrated the Gyeongsangbuk-do club competition.
Celebrity Engagement and Immersive Experiences
The expo wasn’t limited to traditional educational displays. Celebrities played a key role in attracting attendees and promoting the importance of learning. Broadcaster and philanthropist ‘Sean’ delivered a special lecture on sharing happiness and the value of humanities, resonating with the audience.
Beyond the lectures, the expo offered a wide array of immersive experiences. Visitors could explore regional attractions through publicity experience centers, engage with augmented reality (AR) technology, and even participate in an Omok competition against an artificial intelligence robot. The XR experience zone, featuring virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality applications, proved particularly popular, with experiences like a VR recreation of the Tea Industrial Revolution Era and interactive VR games for children. A National Youth Habuta Debate Competition also drew significant interest.
Showcasing Local Talent and Cultural Experiences
The event also provided a platform for local lifelong learning clubs to showcase their work, highlighting the achievements of Gyeongsangbuk-do’s educational initiatives. Sixty-one lifelong learning institutions from the province participated, offering visitors a wealth of attractions and increasing overall satisfaction.
Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, the expo featured cultural experiences such as a K-Pop Demon Hunters cosplay event, a magic performance, and a dedicated photo zone for attendees to capture memories.

Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok emphasized the significance of the expo, stating that it “served as an opportunity to confirm the future vision of lifelong education.” He further declared Pohang as a representative lifelong learning city in the Gyeongbuk region, committing to the creation of “a sustainable lifelong learning city that leads lifelong learning in Gyeongsangbuk-do.” This commitment underscores the city’s dedication to fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation for its residents.
