In Poland, the activities of the technology company OpenAI are being checked for violations of the law on personal data. reports Reuters citing the country’s Personal Data Protection Office (UODO).

“The case concerns a violation of many provisions on the protection of personal data, so we will ask OpenAI to answer a number of questions,” said UODO head Jan Nowak. The department added that OpenAI did not correct false information generated by its ChatGPT neural network.

It is noted that the company could have violated the European data protection law (General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR). Based on this regulation, ChatGPT was banned in Italy in March this year.

The reason for the blocking was then a data leak from the neural network. The Italian authorities noted that the service will be suspended until ChatGPT complies with the standards of EU law on personal data.

As Vedomosti wrote, against the backdrop of the popularity of the ChatGPT and Midjourney neural networks, from August 2022 to February 2023, the number of their users increased fivefold, and the duration of interaction with artificial intelligence (AI) tripled.

In February, ChatGPT set a world record as the fastest-growing app in terms of downloads. Then, in two months, the number of application users reached 100 million, and 13 million people used the application daily.
