Poland warns of approaching Wagner group

More than 100 mercenaries from Wagner, a group commanded by Yevgeny Prigozhin, are moving towards the Suwalki corridor, the stretch of the Polish-Lithuanian border that separates Belarus and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.

The information was released by the Polish prime minister, Mateusz Morawiecki.

“Now the situation is even more dangerous. We have information according to which more than 100 mercenaries from the Wagner group headed towards the Suwalki corridor near Grodno, in Belarus”, declared the leader in an interview with the local press.

According to him, the move is “a step towards a hybrid attack on Polish territory”.

Morawiecki also indicated that the mercenaries “will probably be disguised as Belarusian border guards and will help illegal migrants to enter Polish territory. “They will try to infiltrate the country, disguised as illegal migrants,” he said.

The area of the Suwalki corridor, which is about 70 kilometers long, is considered a weakness in the territory of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), especially due to its connection with Belarus, one of the main allies of the government of Vladimir Putin. .
