More than 70 militants who attacked administrative buildings have been detained in Almaty, police said. More than 30 looters were also detained, Sputnik Kazakhstan reports, citing official information from the police department.
Earlier, the country’s authorities reported on the elimination of 26 criminals. The rioters face life sentences.
Riots have continued in Kazakhstan since January 2. The demonstrators demanded to lower prices for liquefied gas, but after that the riots did not stop. Dozens of people died and hundreds were injured. The government resigned. A state of emergency is in force throughout the country. The arrived peacekeepers of the CSTO countries began to work in the country. According to preliminary estimates, the damage from the riots exceeded $ 100 million.
