Police have issued an urgent warning to the public to be extra vigilant regarding the circulation of counterfeit currency notes.
Gampaha: Police seized 34 1,000 rupee notes and some 5,000 rupee notes from a 29-year-old man in the Taraluwa area yesterday.
Also, equipment including a computer used by the person to print counterfeit currency notes has been recovered.
Investigations into the incident will be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department, police spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Nihal Taltuwa said.
In this situation, the public and traders are requested to be vigilant about the counterfeit notes and inform the nearest police station.
