Fake Agents Defraud Two and a Half Crores in Jaffna District

Complaints have been pouring into police stations in the Jaffna district over the past two weeks regarding fraud committed by fake agents promising to send victims abroad. The total amount defrauded is reported to be more than two and a half crores of rupees.

This is not an isolated incident, as similar scams have been on the rise recently.

Speaking on the matter, the police revealed, “In the last 2 weeks, 10 complaints have been received in the police stations in Jaffna district, and based on them, more than two and a half crores of money have been defrauded. Victims have lost money relying on advertisements on social media.”

In response to the increasing number of cases, the police are currently conducting an investigation into the matter.

In light of these incidents, the police have issued a warning to the public to be cautious and not be deceived by paying money based on advertisements shared on social media that promise opportunities to go abroad.
