Polytechnic students left the road after 8 hours

Students blocked the road on Monday (September 9) for six-point demands. They announced that they will not leave the road until their demands are met. During the road blockade, severe traffic jams occurred on various roads around the area including Hatirjheel.

They lifted the road blockade around 6 pm on Monday after the Secretary of the Department of Technical Education assured the students to accept their demands.

The demands of the students are: All the controversial craft instructors recruited in 2021 should be transferred from the technical directorate and all institutes immediately. Diploma Engineering course of four years duration should be confirmed. Each semester (phase) should be of full term (six months). No one other than Diploma Engineer can apply for the post of Sub-Assistant Engineer (Grade 10). Sub-Assistant Engineers and equivalent posts shall be reserved for Diploma Engineers. Technical education board should be reformed. Technical sector management cannot have any non-technical manpower. The teacher crisis should be removed by amending the controversial recruitment rules of the Department of Technical Education and recruiting technical manpower to all vacant posts. In order to increase the opportunities for higher education, 100% seats should be secured in the proposed four engineering colleges for Diploma in Engineering students.
