POOR CREATURES, nominated for 11 Oscars, arrives in theaters

Winner of the Golden Lion for best film at the Venice International Film Festival, the new film by Yorgos Lanthimos, Poor creatures (Poor Things)opens this Friday, January 26 in Spanish cinemas.

Acclaimed by critics, it has also won two Golden Globes in the comedy categories, for best film and best actress for its protagonist. Emma Stoneand is one of the favorites for the Oscars, starting with eleven nominations, including best film, direction and leading actress.

Emma Stone has declared “what poor creatures having received 11 nominations seems almost surreal. I am very grateful to the Academy for including me as an actress and producer among this group of exceptional nominees and for recognizing our film in so many categories. It is the incredible story and fantastic evolution of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a young woman revived by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she lacks, Bella runs away with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a sophisticated and wicked lawyer, on a dizzying adventure across continents. Freed from the prejudices of her time, Bella becomes firm in her purpose to defend equality and liberation.

Based on the book by Alasdair Gray, the script is the work of Tony McNamarabeing his second collaboration with Lanthimos y McNamara after The favourite. The producers are Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Yorgos Lanthimos y Emma Stone.
